Awesome information. I got my first public art commission for Council and this helped out a lot.

I have to invoice them AFTER I have done most of the work, purchased materials, etc. I had to submit and resubmit drawings for a structural engineer, run workshops, attend meetings... This is a full time job and a LOT more work beyond what I will make out of it...

But I get to meet other artists, find out how to work smarter, define the value of the work accurately, get advise from engineers and other professionals I wouldn't have access to working a job. It is an incredibly valuable experience.

But how the HELL do you live on invoices paid 30 to 60 days after they are submitted??

Mod F, man. Filling in the MOD F form also made me realise I need to work the budget, keep reciepts and do business. And it's worth it just for that.

I also have more respect for the system. It DOES allow for you to work and build up your art practice. I have worked shit jobs I hated, made no art and been miserable because I thought doing this was more "respectable" than recieving benefits.

I could not do what I am doing without recieving benefits and because of this, I am not ashamed of recieving this money. It is allowing me to produce a piece of public art and to build my experience and my art practice.

Heaps helpful thank you.
Q. What if you're on a disability pension? You are anable to work at the moment, due to illness. Will they hassle you,if you make an income every now and then, from selling your artworks?
Thank you.
