About Art and Dole
Art and Dole is not an initiative that advocates for governments to subsidise visual artists and their practices. Rather, Art and Dole lobbies for changes to government’s social security schemes, to better acknowledge and assist visual artists to get off dole queues, and successfully into their specialist area of employment.
While Australia lacks an official Visual Arts Welfare policy, and while creative individuals still run into difficulties accessing the current Social Security System, Art and Dole also exists to provide a guide for Australian visual artists to organise themselves, to collect information to best adapt the current system. Art and Dole is a collective initiative, existing without government funds - ‘artist funded’, to assist artists in need.
